I’ve been watching tutorial videos, scouring Pinterest for tips and getting familiar with my new Silhouette machine. This is my first project, a simple experiment with creating my own shapes.
The banner is made with two-sided cardstock cut on the Silhouette and stitched together on a sewing machine. Once you get going on the sewing part, it’s a little addictive!
I used 8-1/2″ x 11″ cardstock, one sheet each in blue and red for the stars, and one sheet in white for the circles. If you’d like the Silhouette files, you can download them here.
To keep the shapes even when I stitched them together, I used washi tape on my sewing machine to mark the stitching lines for the stars and the dots, then set my machine for a long stitch length and fed the shapes through one after another, alternating dots and star colors. Easy peasy, and super quick. It only took a few minutes to put sew all the shapes together.
I sewed through the center of the dots, and slightly off center on the stars so the stitching was closer to the top. It helped make the stars hang straight up and down on the garland, rather than tipping forward.
Any other Silhouette newbies out there? I’d love to see your projects!
